# Estimate filament cost before you print

Most print quotes go wrong in the first step: mixing **raw filament cost** with electricity, labour, and markup. Start with material only, then build the rest.

## The material formula

Cost per gram = spool price ÷ spool net weight. Part raw cost = cost per gram × part weight (include purge and supports if you want those in the estimate).

Example: a ₹1,200 spool with 1,000 g net and an 84 g part → ₹1.20/g → about **₹100.80** in filament.

## Use the RB3DLabs tools

- [Filament Cost Calculator](https://stage.rb3dlabs.com/tools/filament-cost-calculator/) for the full material form

- [Filament usage guide](https://stage.rb3dlabs.com/calculate-filament-usage/) for grams vs model volume

- [Print Cost Calculator](https://stage.rb3dlabs.com/tools/print-cost-calculator/) when you add power, extras, and markup

- [Full print cost guide](https://stage.rb3dlabs.com/calculate-3d-print-cost/) for cost vs selling price

Keep currency consistent (we default to ₹ INR). And remember: material cost is not your selling price until you apply markup or margin on purpose.
